
A router mini UPS can keep home internet equipment running during a power interruption, but it must match the voltage, connector and power requirements of every connected device.
Identify every device
Fibre installations often use an optical network terminal and a separate Wi-Fi router. Check each power adapter for output voltage and current. Adding a small switch or LTE router changes the required capacity.
Voltage must match
Networking equipment may use 5V, 9V or 12V DC. Supplying the wrong voltage can prevent operation or damage equipment. A multi-output mini UPS is useful only when the selected outputs match each device. Do not assume all barrel connectors carry the same voltage.
Connector size and polarity
Two DC plugs can look almost identical while using different barrel dimensions. Polarity matters too. Compare the connector specification and polarity symbol on the original adapter with the mini UPS cable or included tips.
Realistic runtime
Runtime depends on battery capacity, conversion losses, battery condition and combined power draw. Marketing figures are estimates and may use a light load. Connecting more devices or high-power equipment reduces runtime.
Mini UPS versus AC UPS
A compact DC mini UPS is efficient for routers and fibre equipment. A conventional AC UPS is more flexible for computers and other mains equipment, but is larger and may provide shorter runtime for a small router load.
